Chapter 557: 556 can accompany you every day
For some reason, as she looked at the flashing name on the screen, Wen Ran’s heartbeat, after skipping a beat, became erratic.
The grip on her phone was somewhat tight, and her voice wasn’t as soft as usual. Despite trying to sound calm, there was still a hint of stiffness that was hard to detect.
Those who were not familiar with her might not notice it. But for the man who loved her deeply, that slight stiffness, transmitted through the radio waves, was like a blade lightly scratching his heart.
He remained silent for a moment, then his deep, magnetic voice came through soothingly, full of unusual tenderness, “Ranran, you’re awake. Did Nanny Zhang make you a new breakfast?”
Her heart warmed slightly at his words. She was about to respond when she heard the sound of a car honking on the other end of the call. She changed what she was about to say, querying, “Aren’t you at work? Why do I hear car sounds?”
Mo Xiuchen’s clear laughter entered her ears. Whether his mood had improved because he heard her voice, or because he was pleased that she noticed where he was, he cheerfully said, “I’m on my way home.”
“You didn’t go to work?”
Wen Ran was even more puzzled.
Her clear eyes shone with a sense of astonishment. He was on his way home? Why at this time? What was he coming back for?
“I’ve handed in my resignation to the board of directors and recommended Mo Zixuan for the presidency.”
“You resigned? Did Chairman Mo agree?”
Wen Ran asked astonishingly, her heart filled with shock. They had argued just the night before, and he had made such harsh remarks. She couldn’t help but feel that his sudden resignation was because of her.
“Whether he agrees or not is none of my business. Ranran, I can stay with you every day now.”
Mo Xiuchen said lightly, as if nothing had ever happened between them, whether it was the divorce incident a few days ago or their unpleasant encounter last night, everything seemed to have dissipated.
“Xiuchen, if you resign, what about Luo Haofeng and Qin Mu? Will they still stay in the company…”
Before Wen Ran could finish her sentence, a sharp noise of a car braking suddenly came from the other end of the call, followed by the sound of a collision…
“Xiuchen!”
Wen Ran sprang up from her chair, her pupils dilated. Her dark eyes were filled with fear and worry, and her voice trembled.
The sound of the car crash rang in her ears. The person involved was Mo Xiuchen. She felt like she had been struck by lightning.
In the silent dining room, she stood stiffly. Sunlight streamed in from the window, falling directly on her pale cheek. After a moment of emptiness, her eyes started to well up with tears.
No response came from the other end of the phone, leaving her feeling suffocated. She staggered towards the exit, her legs gave way just as she took her first step.
She quickly reached out to support herself against the wall, took a deep breath, and stumbled out.
She still held the phone tightly in her hand. After calling out Mo Xiuchen’s name anxiously a few times, she realized that the call had somehow ended. The screen displayed the duration of the call.
Wen Ran’s heart felt as if it was being crushed by a huge rock, leaving her gasping for air. Amidst her chaotic thoughts, one hope was incredibly clear: she just wanted Mo Xiuchen to be alright.
“Miss Wen, where are you going?”
As she rushed out of the living room, she ran into Little Liu. Seeing her distressed expression, Little Liu immediately looked at her with concern.
Wen Ran didn’t know when she had started crying. Tears streamed down her pale cheeks. She looked at Little Liu in front of her through blurry eyes, grabbed his arm, and said urgently, “Xiuchen has had a car accident. Take me to him now.”
Little Liu’s face turned pale from Wei Ran’s words. He asked in disbelief, “Miss Wen, are you saying that Young Master Mo had a car accident? When did this happen?”
Shouldn’t Young Master Mo be at work? How could he have had a car accident?
Little Liu looked puzzled and clueless.
Wei Ran was so desperate that she was causing him pain by gripping his arm so tight. Her voice hoarse with panic, she blurted out quickly, “He was on his way back from the company. Just now when we were on the phone. I need to find him now.”
After speaking, Wen Ran suddenly released Little Liu and ran towards the garage.
“Miss Wen, I’ll come with you.”
Upon hearing her words and seeing her run towards the garage, Little Liu immediately followed. Even though he had not fully understood the situation, the mention of Young Master Mo being in a car accident had alarmed him.
As Qing Feng and Qing Yang emerged from the garage, they saw Wan Ran and Little Liu running towards them. A look of surprise crossed their faces as they stepped forward to meet them.
Little Liu simply said, ‘Young Master Mo had a car accident while he was on the phone with Miss Wen.’ Immediately, Qing Feng and Qing Yang turned around to open the car door for Wen Ran, assuring her, “Miss Wen, don’t worry. Young Master Mo will be fine.”
Seeing Qing Feng comforting Wen Ran, Qing Yang told Little Liu, “Contact Doctor Gu immediately and find out the situation.”
Compared to Little Liu, Qing Feng and Qing Yang were more alert and calm. Hearing that Mo Xiuchen had an accident while on the phone with Wen Ran, Qing Yang glanced at the phone in Wen Ran’s hand and calmly instructed.
The first priority is to have Doctor Gu rush to the scene to save Mo Xiuchen.
The sound of the car crash still echoed in Wen Ran’s head. The person involved was Mo Xiuchen. Her rationality and calmness had left her, leaving her desperate to see Mo Xiuchen. She hadn’t thought to notify Doctor Gu to save him in the first place.
“Miss Wen, fasten your seatbelt.”
Once in the car, Qing Feng noticed Wen Ran shaking slightly. Her hand, gripping the phone, was also trembling. A hint of concern crossed his face, and he asked her to fasten her seatbelt.
“He was on his way back from the company.”
Wen Ran’s voice trembled severely, after speaking, she placed the phone on her lap, and fastened her seatbelt with her trembling hands.
“Miss Wen, let me try calling Mo Xiuchen. Maybe the sound you heard earlier wasn’t his car colliding with someone.”
After speaking, Qing Feng dialed Mo Xiuchen’s number on his own phone.
Wen Ran’s tear-filled eyes widened as she stared intently at the phone in his hand. She hoped, as he suggested, that the sound she had heard earlier didn’t come from Mo Xiuchen’s car collision.
However, even though she wished for that, she couldn’t control the panic that was spreading throughout her body. Her hands tightly clasped the corner of her clothes. In her heart, she kept silently whispering, “Xiuchen, you must be okay.”
“As long as you are okay, I promise not to leave you, I promise not to divorce, I promise you everything.”
