Vol. 3 - Chapter 58 - Negotiation and report
The two of them, along with Gill\'s subordinate, Testu, and the others were taken into custody by the Adventurer\'s Guild. After hearing about the situation from them, the circumstances of the incident became clear.
Apparently, they had been attacked by Munch and the others just as they had finished their business negotiation with Gill. Right now, they were in the middle of a negotiation that Gill had been aiming for.
However, since they had been humiliated by [Laguna], both of them had already made up their mind and signed the contract.
Therefore, although I said it was a business negotiation, it was nothing more than a discussion about the contract details.
"This is the end of the contract. I look forward to working with you."
After signing the contract, I held out my right hand to them, and they shook it back.
"It\'s our pleasure too, Young President Sagami. My goal is money. This deal is lucrative and it\'s even better to receive it from a general merchant than from a slave trader. It\'s nothing less of a windfall for me too," Madara declared in a cheerful voice, with an unconcealed look of joy.
The contents of the contract were as follows.
Madara would purchase slaves from slave traders all over the empire that were being sold for money, and transferred them to Sagami Co.
We would provide them with necessities of life while employing them and having them repay us by deducting money from their monthly wages. In the meantime, our business association would provide them with a minimum of vocational training
When the repayment, including interest, was complete, Sagami Co. would conduct another employment examination for those who wished to join. That was the condition.
Systematically, it was still not enough to take away the aspect of forced labor, but it was impossible to change everything from the beginning. I thought I should be satisfied with this for now.
"I\'m glad. Do you think it\'s possible to do a basic background check?"
"Of course. That\'s part of the contract. I will properly investigate their origin. I will let you know only about troublesome ones, so you can interview them then."
As for the interviewer, I knew one person who was qualified.
It was that little girl Satori. I had heard she had the power to see other people\'s lies. This was very useful to us in an emergency.
As expected, I must persuade Aku at any cost.
"Kato-san, have you obtained the consent of prostitutes?"
"Yes. To begin with, they aren\'t the type of person who\'s selling their body because they like it. They are all forced to engage in this business because of financial or family problems. Some of them become the target of violence or some even kidnapped by some customers. Especially—"
Kato said it with an anguish expression, as if biting her tongue, and fumbled at the end.
"[Laguna]?"
Kato nodded in affirmation.
After all, the reason she agreed to it was because the real ruler of Straheim\'s underworld, [Laguna], disappeared with the death of the Fourth Supervisor, Poisonous Liquor.
Perhaps, that might be why an organization called [Laguna] was absolute for those who lived in the underworld.
"I will repeat it again. [Laguna] is about to disappear. It\'s for the good of this world for worthless organisations like that to disappear."
It\'s a hundred year too early for the outlaws to get involved in national politics. At most, these guys were just parasites that only showed their dominance over the weak. Such a crooked organization should be demolished right away.
"Young President Sagami is really terrifying because you are saying it seriously," Madara said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Who knows. I will make arrangements for them as soon as their background check is over. So I\'m leaving that to you."
It would be annoying if a spy or a criminal was mixed in with them. So, I would have to make sure of that.
There were many steps that needed to be taken, such as recruiting Aku and Satori, but this was Gill\'s last job. It was my duty to make this business deal a success.
I would definitely make it successful.
"Now if you excuse me. Although it\'s not much hospitality, if you like, you can have lunch here."
As I stood up from my seat, both of them were staring at me with strange looks.
"What\'s the matter?"
"We\'re sorry."
Madara and Kato bowed to me.
"You don\'t need to be heartbroken about Gill. Because he only followed his conviction until the end. But, if you feel like you are obliged to do something for him, then please make sure that the deal is accomplished without fail."
Gill\'s goal was only one. To reduce as many people as possible who became unfortunate slaves due to fate and were in helpless circumstances of their own. That was the mission that I had inherited.
Nodding, I smiled at them and left the room.

I visited the residence where the imperial family was staying this time, and had just finished reporting to the imperial government.
Well, although I said the imperial government, the emperor and the others were just an addition. The meeting was actually with the lord of domestic affairs, a gentleman with a Kaiser beard, and Baron Hakuro, whose trademark was his loach beard. Namely, to verify the [Laguna]-related incident.
"A person that can produce an awakened demon king!? What kind of absurd ability is this!!"
Emperor Georg shouted, which I was sure was the voice of everyone in the room. They all looked as if they were chewing at a bitter bug and could not speak.
After all, it was understandable.
It was the crazy ability to create a legendary demon that had overthrown the world six times. There was no other ability that was as unreasonable and ridiculous as this.
"Demonified Poisonous Liquor was modified to an extreme degree, so it was quite difficult to deal with him."
"No-no, there\'s not even someone who can deal with the awakened Demon King and say it was quite difficult!" the young secretary said with a plain face, shaking his hand left and right.
"That\'s right. No matter which literature I have pulled, I have never heard of a hero who defeated the demon king alone. All of them portray two heroes."
A middle-aged man with long sideburns, Gaius, interjected seriously to which all attendees agreed one after another.
The guild president, Gaius, also seemed to have been summoned to report to the Adventurer\'s Guild’s side.
I didn\'t have much free time, either. I\'d cut the idle chat early and get right to the point.
"So what about the [Laguna] in Straheim?"
"Poisonous Liquor has passed away. [Laguna]’s Straheim\'s base quarter under him was also demolished. In addition, several families of back-dealers had asked for the protection of the imperial government and the Adventurer’s Guild. As a matter of fact, [Laguna]’s influence from Straheim had been wiped out completely."
"I see. That\'s good news."
I had to start eliminating them in the imperial capital as soon as possible. That\'s right, it was [Laguna] hunting time.
"Now the problem is that mastermind who can transform others into Demon King......"
"Don\'t worry, I\'ll take full responsibility for crushing the mastermind behind this."
When I announced this, a wave of relief spread over at once.
The mastermind had angered me. The scum who had crossed the line would get what they deserved. The only problem is the opponent was a morbid coward, and there was a good chance that he wouldn\'t let us catch him by the tail.
"I see. Don\'t be hard on yourself."
I shrugged at Emperor Georg\'s out of place consideration.
"I don\'t mind. Above all, the incident this time has more or less come close to being over. I would like the two imperial princesses to return to the imperial capital immediately."
I didn\'t have enough leeway to babysit children anymore. Besides, the mastermind was extremely dangerous. If they stick out their heads anymore, it would just be like repeating Gill\'s tragedy. I would have them deported to the imperial capital immediately.
"About that......."
Georg hesitated on his word while scratching his cheeks awkwardly. I had an unpleasant premonition. This was always the worst kind of guy. Therefore—
"I refuse," I asserted clearly.
"Hey, I still haven\'t said anything!!"
"What does it matter, it\'s going to be about continuing babysitting, am I wrong?"
"Babysitting.......But you are the kid here, you know?"
Gaius butted in with a voice that seemed like he was astonished wholeheartedly, but I ignored him and continued.
"I firmly refused!" I announced it strongly.
"Don\'t say that. I tried to persuade them, but they insisted that the case is not over yet."
The fatty emperor raised his voice pathetically. Dammit, you\'re a brother and a father. At least hold the reins of those tomboys tightly.
"You are well aware of the danger of this incident, aren\'t you? I sincerely apologise, but I am not going to get along with their selfishness anymore."
"I know that very well. But you, sir, are already aware how dangerous they are. If we force them to return to the imperial capital, they will only start their own investigation. Then it would be safer to leave them in your hands. Isn\'t that right?"
Dammit! That\'s indeed a sound argument.
".........You are wrong," I squeezed out the reply somehow.
Both of them had received quite a shock from Gill\'s death. It wasn\'t a matter of wanting to get rid of an enemy or anything like that, but of not sacrificing any more of the empire\'s citizens. They probably wanted to capture the culprit because of their sense of duty.
That was why it was so dangerous. The enemy wasn\'t such a naive existence. He could easily take advantage of such lofty feelings.
"Then, can\'t you ask for a favor?"
"Please stop it. Anyway, I don\'t have the right to veto after all, right?"
"I\'m sorry."
At my sarcastic words, the Prime Minister deeply bowed his head.
"Then I will take my leave here."
I had already finished talking. I would now have to come up with another plan.
I stood up, bowed, and was about to turn towards the door.
"That\'s right. The first prince of the Vitsley kingdom has arranged to come here soon. I will leave the dealing with him to you."
"What? Why me?"
Was he the kind of man Olivia was bad at dealing with? It was up to you whether you liked it or not. You could do whatever you want. But why should I be involved in such a trivial love affair between a man and a woman?
"More or less, you are also a fiancee candidate for Olivia, right? Isn\'t it natural for you to do so?"
No-No-No, what did you just say?
"It\'s just something that wild beast have blurted out!"
"Don\'t worry, the First Prince is very busy. It\'ll be a while before he comes."
"That\'s not the problem here!"
"Is that alright? You don\'t have much time, do you?"
Georg urged, with the smug look of a boy who had succeeded in playing a prank.
In other words, I had no right to refuse this either. They really were an annoying bunch who brought trouble.
I clicked my tongue and left the building this time, embodying anger all over my body.
