Vol. 3 - Chapter 92 - Katariona Prepares for the Summer Festival

Author-nim: This event takes place out-of-season.

One of the hottest seasons of the year has come to the Kingdom of Findalia.

Because of the heat, people try to stay cool, and every year the annual Summer Festival is held in the royal capital.

All of the students of the Magic Academy participate in the festival as a charity activity.

Each class is in charge of a certain area, and we have to organize a charity event at that place.

At the moment, our classes are discussing what kind of activities we should do.

"It\'s really hot in the capital, don\'t you think?"

Chris said, fanning her hands, lazily.

"Our territory has short summers, and is located in the north, so it\'s cooler."

Up until last year, we had lived in the Marquisate de Grandeur, so we are not used to the summers in the royal capital.

Our uniforms have changed from a dark blue dress to a white dress. The white dress is our summer uniform.

You have the choice to choose to wear long sleeves or short sleeves. Most aristocratic ladies hate to get sunburned, so most of them wore long sleeves. Chris and I also wore long sleeves.

In the classroom, the temperature was controlled by magic stones, so it was cool, but once we stepped outside, the unrelenting heat struck us.

"Excuse me........ Princess Christina-sama, Katariona-sama, do you have any thoughts on the matter?"

Alicia-sama, who was officiating the event, hesitantly approached us. She is a member of the executive committee for the summer festival. As the daughter of the Earl of Ferguson, Alicia-sama, like Tria, was not very comfortable with public appearances.

And due to her reserved disposition, she was forced to be a part of the tedious committee.

Our first year, Class A, was assigned to a waterway charity project in the royal capital.

But what are we going to do? All I could think of was cleaning the waterways.

The worst draw to receive for charity at the Summer Festival is the waterways that are pulled from the river. The water is clean but lacks glamour.

"Hey, we\'re supposed to have boats floating in the canal, right?"

Chris called out to Alicia-sama to confirm if she had thought of something.

"Y, yes. It\'s a good way to cool off."

The boat was not a big one, but a small one that could hold about three people.

" Then what about setting up a stall on the waterway?"

"A stall? What kind of stall?"

Alicia was relieved to hear Chris\'s thoughts.

Did nobody voice an idea until now?

I was talking to Chris and wasn\'t listening to Alicia-sama, so I couldn\'t tell .......

"\'Since it\'s a charity event, how about some sweets or something? We can donate the proceeds to the orphanage."

The people who go boating and enjoy the cool air are the wealthy. They would give us a good amount of money. No, no, no! We can solicit donations.

"Sweets? Do you know of any stores that would be willing to help?"

No one raised their hand.

"If it doesn\'t have to be candy from this country, I know of a place."

Tojurou-san, who had been listening quietly in the corner of the classroom, offered a helping hand. And Leon, on the other hand, was lying down at the foot of Tojurou-san. He was lying at his feet because it was the coolest place to sleep.

"Teacher, are you sure? Please introduce me!"

Alicia-sama begged with a tearful face urging Tojurou-san to help her. She must be at her wit’s end.

After school, I was invited by Tojurou-san to go to Ayano-san’s store.

"\'Aren\'t these types of things supposed to be done by the executive committee?\'

Chris mumbled as he followed Tojurou-san.

"\'Don\'t complain, just shut up and follow me."

We were chosen to go and negotiate on behalf of Alicia-sama to see if we could get some sweets for the booth at the summer festival.

"Will Ayano-san agree?"

It was a charity event, so part of the proceeds would be donated to charity.

Unless the store specialized in sweets advertised as approved by the royal family, most of the sweets stores were not too keen on the idea. Thinking this, I was expecting a rejection.

I was sure they would say no.

"If that\'s the case, that\'s fine."

Ayano-san gave a quick consent.

"However, there are conditions."

"What is it?"

I gulped down my spit.

"I want to sell it with added value."

"Added value?"

Ayano-san nodded and held the raw sweets for sale in her palm.

"For example, the paper that wraps these confections has the words "jackpot" written on it every thirty confections."

"What happens when you win?"

There must be something to it because it\'s called jackpot.

"I\'ll give you one of your favorite sweets."

"What! I haven\'t won anything before!"

Leon was the one who took the bait. He was in cat form and was riding on my shoulder.

"Fluffy-kun, you have terrible luck when it comes to lotteries."

Chris laughed with a smirk on her face.

Leon liked the store\'s raw sweets so much that he dropped by many times on his way home from school.

However, he had never seen a wrapper with any text written on it.

When he first came to this store, he took advantage of the fact that it was on the house and ate without hesitation. It may sound strange to call it a punishment to a god, but .......

"What about the added value of if a girl gives a boy one of the sweets our store offers, the girl’s feelings will be sent?”

Ayano-san’s suggestion was so far-fetched that I couldn’t quite comprehend it.

In the Kingdom of Findalia, there is no such custom for a woman to confess her feelings to a man.

I did a confession-like attempt to Leon, but .......

"That\'s a good move because Ayano has the blessings of the god of business."

Tojurou-san agreed. As the name suggests, the god of business is the god of business prosperity.

There are even gods of commerce and chain of command in Hinoshima? I\'ve heard that there are eight million gods, but it\'s really a country where anything goes.

"Isn\'t it closer to the fulfillment of love than the establishment of more business relationships?"

Chris asked, tilting her head.

"It doesn\'t have to be a love affair, just a small wish like a date or holding hands."

Ayano-san waved her hand in the air.

"When you sell the sweets, you can advertise them as \'wish-fulfillment’ sweets."

"But if their wishes don\'t come true, Ayano-san’s shop will lose its reputation."

"That\'s why it\'s limited to the summer festival. It’ll be fine! About one in ten people’s wishes will come true."

With a smile, Ayano-san stroke my head.

"Will it work that well?"

Chris was skeptical.

"No. It might work out better than you think. Gods do not grant human wishes, but they can help. If the desire to make a wish come true is strong enough, people will sometimes grant their own wishes without knowing it."

"You\'re like a god, Leon."

Ayano-san remarked, giggling. I cannot say that he is in fact a god.
