Chapter 94

Instead, I was laying on a hard bed with thin cover, surrounded by walls made of woods, and -forget about ceiling, this place didn’t have one- roofs made of dry palm leaves which were stacked together and bound by rope made of the skin of woods. It was arranged so tight and firm that even if it were to rain heavily, there would be no rain drops leaked into the house.

That was not the point.

WHERE AM I???

I was frustrated after I found out that I was not at the same place anymore.

Wasn’t it too bizarre to suddenly find out I was not in the same place anymore? Was all the surprises in these past six months not enough to make me crazy? Now, I was thrown in this place for what reason, dear universe? Please, answer me!

Out of my frustration, I grabbed my hair and kicked around while whining. I just wanted to cry and scream!

I had enough of it!

Just thinking about it made me in bad mood. I didn’t feel sleepy for being woken up from my sleep. I was just frustrated and upset for all that had happened to me.

.....

I felt like I could punch the sandbag for a whole day to appease my anger.

By the time, I finished cursing whoever brought me here, my mood was totally destroyed. I put a long face, with cold eyes, and pouted mouth.

Have you ever felt so upset and mad that you thought you would agree to a fight if someone asked you to do it?

That’s what I was feeling at that moment.

What I felt was beyond mere irritation.

I was mad!

Whoever you are who dragged me here, come out! Come out and let’s talk about life!

Unfortunately, I was in rage for nothing. It was all in vain since no one came to me to appease my anger. I sat down on the bed, my hands tightly grasped the disheveled bed-sheet while my chest was rising up and down, following the fire in my chest. As time passed, my anger slowly subsided, but it didn’t disappear.

After my anger slowly dissipated, I could hear the conversation out of the room.

It sounded like a meeting, with around four to five people were talking in a hot debate. I frowned as I heard what they were talking about.

“Are you sure you want to accept a kid to continue the legacy?” One.

“She is not just any kid. She...” Two.

“She is a kid! She’s not twenty yet!” A different voice cut it off. Three. A slap on a table was following this sentence. I couldn’t imagine how irritated this person felt.

“We’ve talked about it before. No matter how old she is, if she has the ability to do so, let her be.” Okay, this person was the fourth. This one sounded gentle and nonchalant.

“Even her father didn’t pass the test, how do you think she will pass the test? She is just a kid!” Two?

“What right does she have to command the first army? She doesn’t have the capability to command the seventh adviser!” The voice was different. He was the fifth person.

“She couldn’t command the army now. The General hasn’t appeared yet. Our concern for now was to prevent this girl from using the army too much. However, regardless of how old she is, we have no rights to strip her off her privilege as the Master of First Army.” The fourth still sounded cool.

Silence fell into the room as no one was able to refute what the fourth person said.

Somehow, I had the feeling that ‘the girl’ they were talking about was actually...me.

I frowned. I didn’t think I ever crossed each one of them before. I didn’t know them. Were they the one who dragged me here?

“Do you think she will agree to our request?” The first person who talked spoke hesitantly.

“She must! There’s no point for her to command the army without the General.”

If the girl they were talking about turned out me, I thought I needed to have some private conversation between the third person and me.

I wanted to ask him, “Do I owe you something? Did I kill your wife and children? Why are you so spiteful towards me?”

“I can’t believe The Middle Region will be guarded by a kid, a girl on top of that.” A sigh and words of pity came from the fifth person.

That’s it! It is clearly a discrimination towards gender!

I pulled open the door and walked towards the source of the voice. In the slightly bigger room, I saw, not five, but six men were sitting around a table in the middle. It seemed like there was only one person who kept silent, but I didn’t know which one he was.

I didn’t really care, though, since I came out to defend myself and my gender.

“What’s wrong being a girl?” I shouted.

Seeing the look of surprised in their old faces made me realized one thing: They didn’t know about my arrival in this log cabin.

Alas, I bet they didn’t know who I was.

“Who are you?” One of them asked carefully, confirming my guess.

I couldn’t control myself not to roll my eyes at the question.

“Jane Harris.” I said, crossing my arms in front of my chest.

They had not even had a chance to wipe off the startled expression on their faces when their eyes got even wider and mouth hung open. Surprise part two!

“You are the kid!” One of them exclaimed with his finger was pointing at me.

Seconds later, he shouted in pain as he pulled his finger which was bent in odd angle.

Serve him right!
